Rashti embroidery is worked on felted wool that is often remnants from making military uniforms. They are often pieced together, with the outer bands often consisting of different colors of ground fabric, but in this case, the borders appear to be a single fabric. The designs are traced onto the fabric with chalk. The entire design is worked in a chain stitch using silk that has been twisted using crochet hooks. One point to note is that today we typically think of embroidery as women’s work, but all of the work created was done by men in professional workshops. The one that I am offering here goes all the way back to Safavieh Dynasty. I must bring to your attention that , it was the Safavieh dynasty that began exporting textile & caroet to Europe. Some European merchants from Netherland went to Iran met Shah Abbass for exchaning goods between two county, and it was the Safavieh dynasty that opened the door to Europe for international trading. Aftrt Dutches, portuguese 7 English came to the pictures. As you see, this Rasht has an interesting pattern with two faces plus lots of Suzai or chain stitches work on felt . this has to be viewed in person to see the excellent detailed that they used back then. As far as the condition goes overall is in good condition, a couple of tiny hole less than half an inch. You can tell from close ups that is in good condition for being a few centuries old.any question, suggestion or feedback, all welcome. it measures 3'-9" x 6'4".
