The vast majority of the antique rugs which were woven in the East Turkestan city of Khotan have a style that is all their own. These exceptional rugs make the legends of Marco Polo and the Silk Road come alive. Khotan is an oasis and an age-old center for international design. From the ornate borders and grand medallions to the stunning repeating patterns, each carpet from Khotan captures a cosmopolitan style that is different than all the other rugs produced in East Turkestan. The city has an ancient crafting culture that includes both silk and carpet weaving. Rugs from Khotan depict an abundance of cultural and stylistic influences.
- Design Fusion: Khotan rugs often exhibit a fusion of Chinese and Persian design elements. They may feature Chinese-inspired motifs such as fretwork, cloud bands, and floral patterns combined with the medallions and borders commonly found in Persian rugs.
- Color Palette: Khotan rugs typically have a soft and muted color palette, with earthy tones such as beige, ivory, soft reds, and blues. This characteristic sets them apart from the more vibrant colors often seen in other rug styles.
- Materials: Traditional Khotan rugs are handwoven using high-quality materials like wool and sometimes silk. The use of these materials contributes to the durability and luxurious feel of the rugs.
- Geometric Patterns: While floral motifs are common in Khotan rugs, geometric patterns, including lattice designs and repeating medallions, are also prevalent. The combination of geometric and floral elements creates a balanced and visually interesting composition.
- What I just said at the above, applies to the one that I am offering here except that the pattern of this is geoetric. This Khotan is around 150 years old and is in good condition at this age, there a couple of very old repair that have been marked on pictures # 5. Folks who love the look of thin antique rugs with worn out look this beauty could be the best candidate. If you are looking for an antique rug with pile & no wear please, do not purchase this. It has low even flat pile from top to bottom. Here is the good news, something like this could easily have a price tag of $3,000.00 to $4,000.00 at any high end retail shop. Unlike other antique rugs that there are many many around Khotan rugs are in small number that's why retailers put the high markup on them but here you can steal this one at only $899.00.
