Art Deco Chinese rugs, also known as Chinese Deco or Nichols rugs, are a fascinating fusion of Eastern tradition and Western modernism. They emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, primarily in the port city of Tianjin (formerly Tientsin), China.Unlike classical Chinese rugs, which featured soft, contrasting tones (often blues and ivories) with symbolic motifs like dragons and lotus flowers, these were designed specifically for export to the West to align with the global Art Deco movement—known for bold geometry, luxury, and glamour. The most iconic examples were produced by American entrepreneur Walter Nichols, who established factories in Tianjin around 1924. Things that some folks fall in Art Deco rugs are, vibrant color combination, unsymmetrical design & simplicity, The one that you see here, is a true Nichol quality & it is an early one. This Deco checks all the boxes as far as design & color combination, Majenta in background & purples in main bordees . If you see two differnet shades of color, I must say that all pile rugs have two shades of colors . If you view the rug from its nap all colors are lighter compared to the other side, which is called dark side. As far as tyhe condition goes, it has decent pile from top to bottom, a couple areas show lower pile but shows no white foundation threads some might not even mention it. It measure 8'-8" x 11'-6".Best of all, is offfered at way below retail price . assure you that you wont find an early Art Deco like this at this price anywhere online or any retail shops.
